I read an article in the New Scientist a few months back regarding Britain and the worlds growing obesity problems. The author whos name i forget stated that in order to combat this issue the bulk of the responsibility lay not with food companies and nutrionsists but rather with designers and planners. The reason being they would be able to design spaces that allowed and encouraged physical activity.
London being a dense urban environment led me to consider skateboarding as one potential solution. I wanted to examine how and where skateboarding exists in a city and the types of spaces that allow or inhibit it. (It is worth considering that places to skateboard also attract bicycle riders and in-line skaters)
I visisted baysixty6 a purpose built skatepark situated under the Westway road system in Ladbroke Grove.
